Rights & editorial administration

Your work needs infrastructure too.

UXEM organizes the registration, administration and tracking of your compositions so authors, rights holders and shares stay correctly identified.

Specialized service available through separate contracting.

The difference matters

The recording and the composition are not the same thing.

When a song is released, different rights, rights holders and royalty flows come into play. Distributing the master does not automatically register the work or administer its editorial rights.

The recording or master

The sound version distributed to platforms. It can be linked to:

  • Artist.
  • Phonographic producer.
  • Label.
  • Master owner.
  • Distribution royalties.

The composition or work

The song as a creation: melody, lyrics and musical structure. It can be linked to:

  • Songwriters.
  • Lyricists.
  • Publishers.
  • Authorial shares.
  • Editorial royalties.

A song can be correctly distributed and still have incomplete editorial information.

Editorial administration

Every work, every rights holder, every share in context.

Repertoire

UXEM organizes the works included in the service and links them to their songwriters, rights holders and related recordings.

Shares

The percentage owed to each author or rights holder within the composition is documented.

Registration

UXEM prepares and manages applicable registrations with the entities and territories covered by the service.

Tracking and collection

UXEM oversees the information received and manages claims or editorial royalties within the contracted scope.

An organized process

We understand the repertoire first. Then we administer it.

01

We identify the works

The songwriter provides the songs they want to bring into the service.

Title, songwriters, lyricists, shares, existing publishers, associated recordings and prior registrations.

02

We review ownership

UXEM checks that the information is consistent and flags possible gaps, duplicates or conflicts.

We review the documentary consistency of the information provided — this does not replace independent legal review.

03

We prepare the registrations

Works are organized according to the requirements of the relevant entities, societies or partners.

04

We administer the repertoire

UXEM maintains the relationship between works, rights holders, shares and registrations within the mandate's scope.

05

We track reports

When reports or editorial royalties are received, the information is linked back to the administered repertoire.

You keep visibility over your works. UXEM coordinates the editorial operation.

Editorial information

A song is also made of data.

Work title

The registered name of the composition.

Songwriters and lyricists

The people who took part in its creation.

Shares

Percentages agreed between rights holders.

Publisher or administrator

The entity responsible for managing the corresponding rights.

Codes and registrations

ISWC and other identifiers available depending on the repertoire and related entities.

Linked recordings

Master versions (ISRC) associated with the composition.

Shares

The total must be clear before registering.

This should not be confused with automatic distribution royalty splits.

Editorial share

Describes what percentage of the composition belongs to each author or rights holder.

Automatic split

Defines how UXEM allocates certain distribution income within the platform.

An editorial share is not the same as a master-income split.

Example
  • Songwriter A — 50% of the work.
  • Songwriter B — 30% of the work.
  • Lyricist C — 20% of the work.
100% documented
Ownership

Administering a work does not mean owning it.

Contracting the service does not transfer ownership of the composition to UXEM. It grants only the authority needed to register, administer and collect within the agreed conditions.

Timelines for adding or removing a work with collecting societies depend on each of them — they can take several months.

Editorial coverage

A work can generate rights in different places.

UXEM administers the repertoire and manages editorial collection based on available coverage and current agreements, within the territories and right types covered by the service — there is no guaranteed worldwide coverage for every work.

Reports

Every royalty needs to keep its origin.

Traceability matters as much as the amount: every administered editorial royalty keeps its link to the work, the rights holder and the source that generated it.

Work Composition title
Rights holder Corresponding songwriter or publisher
Right type Per the service's actual classification

Questions about editorial administration

Everything clear before adding a work.

No. Master distribution and editorial registration are different processes. A release can be correctly distributed and still not have its editorial information registered.

Yes. Contracting the service does not transfer ownership of the composition to UXEM — it grants an administration, registration and collection mandate, with a standard 1-year term.

Editorial royalties within the territories and right types covered by UXEM's current agreements. There is no guaranteed worldwide coverage for every work.

Your PRO/CMO affiliation is part of the information UXEM administers — it's actually required to complete your registration. If you already have an active affiliation, it's registered as part of your songwriter profile.

Yes, as long as you can provide the necessary information (songwriters, shares and associated recordings).

Only when a real mechanism exists to do so, within each case's specific periods and territories — retroactive collection is not guaranteed.

Preparing the registration and its processing with each collecting society are different timelines: it can take several months, depending on the territory and society involved.
