What changes in practice
DistroKid
On DistroKid, the splits tool is free for you, but your collaborators (producers, co-artists) must have an active DistroKid subscription or pay $10 USD/year just to receive their share. If they do not pay, their money is held indefinitely.
UXEM
UXEM Split Payments are included in all plans and do not require your collaborators to be platform users. Set the percentages once and every person receives what they are owed automatically.
DistroKid
DistroKid's base plan ("Musician", $24.99/year) only allows 1 artist. Adding a second requires "Musician Plus" ($39.99/year). Managing 5 or more artists requires "Ultimate" at $89.99/year.
UXEM
UXEM's START plan ($69 USD/year) already includes management of up to 3 artists from one account. The PRO plan ($199 USD/year) includes unlimited artists — ideal for managers, producers and growing labels.
DistroKid
DistroKid operates primarily in English. Documentation, emails and support response times are designed for English-speaking markets, which can be a barrier for Latin American artists.
UXEM
UXEM was born in Colombia and operates from Medellín. Our support team responds in native Spanish, with clear response times based on your plan.
DistroKid
As a US-based company, DistroKid royalty payments may be subject to US IRS withholding taxes. Artists outside the US must complete additional paperwork (such as Form W-8BEN) to avoid those withholdings.
UXEM
UXEM is a Colombian company. You pay in Colombian pesos (COP), face no IRS withholdings and tax reporting is entirely local. Less paperwork, more time for your music.
